I have been around
professional photographs since a child. My
Father was a photographer in WWII doing USO and political things, so we had in
our home large format black and whites of Winston Churchill, Charles DeGaulle as
well as non-war scenes of
France
and
Corsica
. While he did not pursue a career
in photography after the war, it kindled an interest in my ability to make
similar images. When it was my turn to go to war, I bought my first SLR in
Vietnam
and a book on composition and began shooting anything that I thought was
interesting in
Southeast Asia
,
Australia
and three years living in
Europe
. During the 80’s and 90’s I got away from photography but the digital SLR
and Photoshop brought me back about six years ago. I find great pleasure in
observing how early morning and evening light transforms often the ordinary into
things of beauty or interest and than trying to create an image of how I felt at
that moment. In trying to create a mood, I don’t hesitate to use masks,
filters, blur or effects that express the mood.
I’m attracted to old or ageless natural images, vehicles, buildings,
water, clouds, fog and find I’m seeing more in monochrome recently.
I find equal joy in making the image and editing the image. My goal is to
create a mood in the image that somehow communicates how the image or moment
made me feel.
