In the early 1960s I
became interested in photography. It was always mostly nature that I
photographed, except for a brief trial at wedding photography as a sideline
in the early 70’s. I had my own darkroom during the late 60’s and into the
late 70’s, and photographed mostly in black & white, except for slides on
trips. In the ‘80s I used mostly color negative film to record family
activities. Then I went back to color slides in the 90’s, and in 2000, after
retiring from a career in chemistry, decided to make photography my main
activity. I found the Focus Group Camera Club, which helped me immensely in
deciding what equipment to buy, and what software to use. Most photographers
at that time were scanning slides and printing digitally, and I became
pretty adept at that. However, in 2004 I went completely digital, and now
use a Canon 1D Mark II camera. An avid birder, about 60% of my photos these
days are of birds, for which I use 600 and 300 mm lenses. I also enjoy
photographing natural scenes, wildflowers, and other natural subjects, and
use wide-angle and medium range lenses. I use Camera Raw, Photoshop CS2, and
print using an Epson 2200. FGCC is a great way to share and learn about
photography.
