At seven, I received my first camera,
a “Brownie”. It was about this time that I began watching my father work
his magic, in his photography dark room, pulling images out of the developer
tray. In high school, I acquired a 2¼ x 3¼ Speed Graphic and began
photographing events for the school newspaper. During college, I worked on
the newspaper staff, and later became the senior photographer for the
college yearbook. That gave me a passport into a new world of commercial
photography, shooting weddings, proms, fires, funerals and more. One
highlight of those days was making the front page of the Sunday Edition of
the Daily Oklahoman with a shot of firemen in action at a big blaze. After
college, I hung up my camera using it only for family events. Six years
ago, I became active in photography again. Starting over with some new
equipment, I looked for and found a club whose members had the same interest
as I in improving my photography skills.
